Our Mental Health Services Process
Our team provides an integrated, collaborative approach to assessing and treating your concerns. To ensure you receive an accurate assessment and then a comprehensive treatment plan to support you, we have you meet for an initial assessment with a licensed psychologist. This provider will discuss with you this evaluation and then work with you to discuss appropriate additional therapies, such as counseling, our wellness services, medication management, and so forth.
This is a comprehensive evaluation with one of our psychologists to see which diagnoses appropriately explain your concerns. We use working diagnoses to clarify and understand your concerns in detail. This allows us to move forward with the most appropriate treatment plan to get you feeling better.
A follow-up visit after your initial assessment takes place to review your treatment plan and make sure you and our team understand how to move forward with your care. The psychologist will review and discuss the working diagnosis or diagnoses present, the wellness therapies available to you to help improve your concerns, and if needed, a discussion for medication management.
Based on your presenting problem and symptoms, you may be referred to our team of psychiatric prescribers for psychiatric evaluation to assess the potential benefit of the medication. Be prepared to answer questions about your medical health, past and current medications, events in your life, and how your life is currently impacted by your symptoms.
At times people retain significant relief from their psychological ailment with medications such as antidepressants, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, or stimulants. Other times people arrive at symptoms relief through psychotherapy. There is ample evidence that a combination of psychotherapy and psychopharmacology may at times have more benefits than either treatment alone.
Management of Medications
In the cases where medication is appropriate to support symptom relief, increase the quality of life, or provide stability we will prescribe it. Our psychiatric providers will continue with the medication management for each patient.
You will meet with your provider to discuss the medication(s), how to take them, and how to safely use them. At MHCS, medication safety is of paramount importance.
Medication management appointments also allow the opportunity for you and your provider to discuss what IS and what possible IS NOT working and make any necessary adjustments to increase the quality of care.

Our Treatment Philosophy
MHCA’s Multidisciplinary Team which can include: Psychiatrists, Clinical Psychologists, medical physicians/prescribers, Licensed Personal Counselors, Neurofeedback Technicians, Behavioral Health Technicians, and Dieticians, then utilizes a Biopsychosocial approach to formulate a comprehensive diagnostic summary.
The Biopsychosocial approach considers the patient’s Biological Factors such as medical conditions, family history, and physical health, their Psychological Factors such as self-esteem, beliefs, emotions, thoughts, traumas, and their Social Factors such as family, friends, and work, school, SES, and culture.
This approach then systematically considers the patient’s unique factors and their complex interactions for understanding the individual needs of each patient, resulting in an individualized and comprehensive diagnostic summary for each patient.
- Biological – Genetics and your physical self.
- Psychological – Beliefs, personality, behaviors, and everything comprising your mental self.
- Social – The impacts of your family background, relationships, and socioeconomic status.
Biopsychosocial – treating the mind and body
- Recognizing that relationships are central to providing health care.
- Using self-awareness as a diagnostic and therapeutic tool.
- Eliciting the patient’s history in the context of life circumstances.
- Deciding which aspects of biological, psychological, and social domains are most important to understanding and promoting the patient’s health.
- Providing multidimensional treatment.
TeleMedicine Options Available
We do offer virtual services as we understand that you need to balance your health priorities with your daily life. To help support this and create easier access to care, we offer virtual visits for medication management and therapy. While Telehealth offers many advantages, it does limit the value of an initial meeting. Because of this, our initial medication management appointments require an in-person visit. After this, we will gladly offer psychiatric medication services via Telehealth. Our counseling sessions have the option of being virtual as well, once you have established with your therapist.
