Alyssa Bruns, PA-C, is a Physician Assistant, who works with adults and teenagers to  provide support for their mental health and overall well-being. Alyssa also has experience  with providing care to patients in more acute settings, including crisis and detox facilities. Her mission is to help others achieve a deeper understanding of their mental and physical health, empowering them with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions about  their care. She is committed to explaining the rationale behind medications and treatments in a way that is accessible and collaborative, while supporting patients in improving their relationships with themselves and others.

Inspiration

Alyssa pursued a career in psychiatry to help others better understand their inner experiences and regain a sense of control over their lives. She values helping patients make sense of their psychiatric conditions, explaining why specific medications and treatments  are indicated, and ensuring care aligns with each patient’s goals and values. Alyssa sees  her role not only as a clinician, but as a liaison, advocate, and trusted confidante—bridging scientific knowledge with lived experience while fostering care grounded in clarity, compassion, and respect.

Education

Alyssa obtained her Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Wingate University in North Carolina. Alyssa returned to Arizona after completion of her studies in North Carolina, working initially in internal medicine and urgent care settings prior to transitioning specifically into psychiatry through her work at a crisis intervention facility. With improved understanding of the importance and impact of quality outpatient care, she now provides clinical support to her patients through medication prescriptions, outpatient referrals, and therapeutic management.

Professional Experience

Since her graduation from her Master’s program in 2019, Alyssa has garnered the respect of her patients, colleagues, and community by providing the highest quality of care, served with compassion, respect, honesty, and integrity. Alyssa has experience treating a variety of psychiatric conditions, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, psychosis  and substance use disorders.

Personal Interests

Outside of work, Alyssa enjoys spending time with her husband, family, and friends. She particularly enjoys skiing, biking, traveling, reading fiction novels, and golfing. Her favorite movies include UP, Cool Runnings, Pirates of the Caribbean, and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
