
Mike Hanafin is a therapist who works with first responders to help them thrive after emotional and psychological trauma. Mike understands how difficult recovering from trauma can be.
Inspiration
Mike was inspired by the fellow first responders he worked alongside throughout his career. He admired their courage and commitment and felt a deep desire to help them understand, recover from, and ultimately thrive after their significant incidents.
Education
Mike holds a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling (MAPC) from Ottawa University and a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University.
After graduation, Mike began working in the addiction recovery field as a therapist, helping patients suffering from trauma and substance dependency achieve and maintain sobriety. He now works at MHCA, where he supports first responders recovering from trauma and other co-occurring disorders.
Professional History
Over the last 31 years, Mike has worked as a police officer. Throughout his career, he has served in the following areas; Patrol, SWAT, (breacher, negotiator, negotiation supervisor), SAU, HEAT, FTO, Advanced Training Supervisor, Internal Investigator, Peer Support, and Wellness Coordinator.
Personal Interests
When he’s not working as a police officer or therapist, Mike enjoys photography and spending time with his two German Shepherds.
