What to Expect

Four steps to a real answer

1

Free 15-min consult (optional)

Start with a 15-minute call with one of our doctors to ask questions and decide if you’re ready. Or skip straight to step 2.

2

Clinical interview (60 min)

At Glendale or Mesa, a licensed psychologist takes a full history — developmental, social, sensory, family, medical — and identifies the appropriate testing battery.

3

Testing battery (3–5 hrs)

Standardized adult autism measures, rating scales, and any indicated co-occurring screens. Usually one day. We provide water and breaks.

Frequently Asked

Common questions about adult autism evaluation

What’s the difference between the free consult and the full assessment?
The free 15-minute consult is a chance to ask questions with one of our doctors and decide if you’re ready. The full assessment is the actual testing — clinical interview, 3–5 hours of testing, and a written report. The consult is optional; you can skip straight to the assessment.
Are tests virtual or in-person?
In-person only. All ADHD and Autism testing at MHCA is conducted at our Glendale or Mesa clinics.
How long does the evaluation take?
Clinical interview is about 60 minutes. The testing battery is 3–5 hours depending on engagement. Most adults do it in one day, with the results review 2–3 weeks later.
How should I prepare?
Avoid caffeine and other stimulants the day of the evaluation. Get a full night’s sleep. Bring a list of medications and any prior evaluation reports.
How quickly will I get results?
About 2–3 weeks after testing. Your psychologist compiles the report and walks you through it in a 30-minute review. You leave with the written report in hand.
What does it cost?
Coverage varies by plan and the specific tests required. Call our intake team and we’ll verify your benefits, walk through what your plan covers, and answer any cost questions before you schedule.
Can the report be used for workplace or grad-school accommodations?
Yes. Our reports include the diagnostic conclusion and supporting testing data needed for ADA-based accommodations or graduate-school disability services.
Will you screen for co-occurring ADHD or anxiety?
When clinically indicated, yes. Many autistic adults also have ADHD or anxiety, and our evaluations can include co-occurring screens in the same battery.
