Group counseling is a form of therapy where a small group of people meets under the guidance of a therapist on a regular basis (i.e. once weekly) to discuss challenges, interact, and explore ways to cope better.

Members of the group will interact with each other and the therapist, provide feedback and support to each other. Many people attend group therapy in addition to individual counseling, others may choose to only participate in group therapy. Discuss with your treatment team at MHCA the best approach for you and when group counseling may be indicated.

As appropriate, your treatment team may recommend that you attend group counseling at MHCA or refer you to group therapy in our community of mental health services. Discussing your concerns with a group of strangers may seem intimidating, however, group therapy has some unique benefits, and many people find it highly rewarding and helpful. Members of the group can provide you with great support and hold you accountable along the way.

You may also find it beneficial to learn from others who may be facing similar challenges and learn what has helped them improve their coping. Group setting may also help you find someone you relate to and put your own challenges into a new perspective.
